“media player codec pack” this is what I use for codec if I am using my windows media player.

I use VLC for like 3 years now and i haven´t seen an better video program until now.
@ comment nr 1. well i don´t have had any problems with playing flv-files yet. (nearly) everything is working fine with VLC.

one good thing about vlc is, that it plays even “broken” video-files where other players would just give out an error message.

VLC is really a good Player, but sometimes I see it in adware markets like zangocash.
Maybe because it’s open source and they can add an adware and republish it but I’m prefer don’t try it.

If only VLC was more portable for devices such as MP3/MP4 players. Of course, that isn’t VLCs fault.

I really love VLC. But it really has some problems with manual seek in many .flv s. And also, it fails to play many .rms. GOM is a pretty good alternative, though contrary to your title, it often asks for codecs even for MP3s. You got anything to say about that (VLC’s failure with rms and flvs)?
